ListManager stopped working on Desktop.

I have been enjoying ListManager for around two years, but the software suddenly stopped working. When I attempt to open the software, I get the following error message:

Microsoft .NET Framework: Unhandled exception has occurred . . . .

Although I don't believe my .NET Framework installation changed, I uninstalled previous versions and reinstalled version 2.0, service pack 1. However, I still get the error message. If I click Continue through the error messages, ListManager eventually opens, but no lists show up. As far as I know, the only new software installed on my desktop was Internet Explorer 8.0. Please Help!

White screen on mobile device

Every time i closed Listmanagers my lists disapeared on my HTC Tytn II. I reinstalled Listmanager with the the hope that this problem would be solved. When i start Listmanager now the program starts loading but after about 2 seconds the screen turns white an stays that way. I tried a hard reset and installing Listmanager as only application with no results.

Can anyone help me?

Corrupted lists

I'm using 2.0.1081.36078 on windows xp (and Samsung BlackJackII)

Creating and modifying hierarchical lists (the reason I'm interested in your product) is very flaky. Lists disappear and reappear. It's so bad at this point, I can't trust the product and have to resort to using Microsoft Word to keep my lists.

Speaking of which -- it'd be nice to have an export to word option.

Desktop Password

Hi,

I haven't accessed the list manager on my desktop for a while. It is requesting a password. Quite honestly I don't even remember setting one.

Is there anyway of finding out what this is? If not I guess I'll have to re-install. If I do re-install can I then just set up the link to my Smartphone so that the lists currently stored on the phone can be sync'd to the desktop?

Disappearing list, list corruption

Deleted list on desktop then synced via mobile. Chose to restore list to desktop. Only 2 of 4 items showed up on desktop list. By clicking in the list window a couple times I was able to get a third item to show but the task description was missing. Fourth never showed up. Then tried syncing again and the list completely disappeared from the mobile device. The desktop list still showed only 2 correct items and one incomplete item. Synced a 3rd time and the mobile device then mirrored the incorrect desktop list. Filled in the task description for the blank #3 task on the desktop list and synced a 4th time. The mobile device list then went blank again.

Since doing that, I deleted the list from desktop/mobile, quit out of everything and started over. I created a new simple list (on desktop) and added a few items to it. I synced with the mobile device and it showed up correctly. I synced again and it disappeared from the mobile. Synced again and it shows up. The bottom line is that I'm seeing very eradic behavior to the point of serious data loss in some cases. It appears to be reproducable on my end. Is this a bug perhaps?

Unable to notify users

Hello, I purchase two SmartPhones and installed List Manager on both of them. I added two usesr and provided each mobile phone number as displayed on the device screen and the matching password I chose on the device.

However, despite having both phones setup as Users, I am unable to Notify them of new items. When I click the button I get the message:

"Unwired List Manager was unable to send the requested notification message. One or more of the mobile devices requiring notification has not registered a mobile carrier with the Unwired Web Service"

For both devices I chose "Other" since one is Sprint/Nextel and the other is Cingular/AT&T.

What gives? Both devices are able to pull from the desktop by initiating a sync, so the connection appears to be working. Why then am I unable to push down from the desktop?

Automatic Sync not working between devices/desktop

Despite the fact that I am able to manually syncronize all of my devices, automatic sync seems to be completely failing. I have Autosync checked under General options for both of my SmartPhone devices. When I add an item, no sync: desktop and other device remain dormant. If I initiate a sync, Desktop gets the item. If I then initiate a sync on the other device, then that device gets the item.

Obviously this is not how things are supposed to work...so can someone please explain what exactly is support to trigger a sync? Surely adding an item, yes? What about changing an item status (check mark etc)? Can you add an option in the List Editor to allow an item to be "monitored"? IE, if a particular column is monitored, it would trigger an autosync, whereas if a particular column isn't monitored then it won't? Like, if I add milage probably nobody cares but if I complete a task then yes, they do.

I'm a little disappointed that device-device sync is not possible but I am OK with having a desktop function as traffic cop but...what's the problem with autosync for me?

Help cannot get software to work

Help, I just bought your software, however I cannot get the desktop software work. It gets lots of errors. I did reinstall dot.network from microsoft. When the desktop program starts I get .net framework error "Unable to find an entry point named 'WTSRegisterSessionNotification' in DLL wtsapi32.dll.

I hit continue and then I get the following errors

Object reference not set to an instance of an object'

Please help I really would like to get the most of your software.

Can't sync with desktop

Hi,

For some reason my Smartphone will not sync with my desktop. When trying to do so I get an error saying that the mobile device is not known to any desktop computer.

I have checked the mobile number matches on the Registration screen and in the user settings on the desktop. When clicking 'OK' to leave that screen I get a message saying 'Unwired List Manager could not connect to the Internet to perform the requested operation. Please check your network connection and try again'. I get the same message when trying to check the desktop computer name in List Manager on the desktop.

Any advice would be appreciated!

On another note, things seem to have been very quiet recently. Is the next version of the software being worked on?

Mobile device to mobile device only?

Just purchased 2 licenses for me and my wife to use List Mgr. We each have a computer, but for the most part they are off during the days. I'd like to know if it's possible to sync lists directly from mobile device to mobile device without a computer intermediary.

We each have a Verizon XV6700 running WM 5.

An example would be when syncing a grocery list. She and I are both at work. Neither of our desktop computers at home are turned on. I make some additions to the grocery list, knowing she'll stop by the store on the way home. How then do I sync my additions to her phone? I can't find a way of just syncing to her phone without having to sync first to a desktop computer.

If this is not possible, can I ask why? Will it be possible in the future? What about the folks who just use pda phones, but who don't use computers, or rarely sync? They SOL for syncing phone to phone? Do I need to leave my home computer on day and night, 24-7-365, to make sure I can always get my updated lists from my pda phone to my wife's pda phone when we're both at work?

Install to Storage Card

Hi,

I have just purchased List Manager for my Orange C600 Smartphone.

First of all, I do like the software!

One issue I'd like to check though is where the application is installed to. When offered the choice of Device Storage or Storage Card I chose the Storage Card. However List Manager seems to have been installed in the phone memory anyway.

Is it possible to move the contents of the folder to the Storage Card? As long as I change the Start Menu shortcut, will it work OK?

The reason for asking is that device storage memory under Windows Mobile 5 is always at a premium and fills up so fast. I like to install as much as I can to the storage card.

Checked items don't always update

If I add items to my a list on my phone and then check them as purchased they don't always synchronize to my desktop. Last weekend I was out shopping and remembered some things so I added to my phone list. Then later I checked the items as I bought them. On Monday I tried to resynch to the dektop and some of the checked items didn't synch.

Incorrect column heading on mobile

The very first list I created after downloading the trial to test showed an incorrect column heading on the mobile device after syncing. I created a list with a date field. On the mobile device, the column heading for that date field displayed as a checkmark, as if it were a yes/no field.

Windows 2000 Compatibility

We have recently been informed of an issue with running InfoShare List Manager on Windows 2000 Systems.

The Problem/Symptom:
After logging in to List Manager, you receive the following error:

"Unable to find an entry point named 'WTSRegisterSessionNotification' in DLL wtsapi32.dll.

The Cause:
Windows XP introduced a concept known as Fast User Switching, which allows multiple users to be logged on to Windows at the same time. This allows User A to maintain their own Windows Instance with their applications running, while another user, User B, is logged in. List Manager supports this functionality, but Windows 2000 does not. The updated executable simply checks for the version of Windows it is running on and provides Fast User Switching when it is supported, and disables this functionality when it is not supported.

The Solution:
Click here to download an updated application file that fixes this problem.

Once you download the file, by clicking on the link above, simply copy the file into the List Manager Application directory on your desktop (replacing the existing ListMgr.exe file).

install problems

when i try to install the program, it downloads a lot of files and then i get this error msg dialog

"InstallAWARE

unable to load plug-in library. Please rebuild your project and make sure all required plug-ins are installed"

After I click OK i get another error about the dotNet 2.0 framework not being installed.

the installation program, itself, runs to the end and thinks that it has been sucessful.

any suggestions?

Unable to install on Desktop

I have tried a couple of attempts to try out this product, but cannot even install it. The program installer launches, then appears to be 'Installing' having gone through 'Collecting Information' and 'Preparing Information' this dialogue freezes at this point and does not progress. Clicking cancel on the box will just grey out the button, the box will stay open and cannot be closed (does not appear in Task Manager)...

I have tried turning off Internet Security but does not make any difference. Obviously the install does not get as far as installing to the phone (imate SP5).

I am sure this is something stupid - but please help.

List Manager requires that you have Data Services configured on your device (for a GSM based device, this may be referred to as a GPRS connection).

The easiest way to test whether or not your data services are properly setup is to use Internet Explorer on your device to connect to a web page. Because web pages are cached on your device, it is important that you enter a URL that you have never visited from your mobile device. A possible choice might be http://www.unwiredsoftware.com. It is also important that you test this connection with your device not connected to your computer via ActiveSync. When you are connected via ActiveSync to your computer, your device is likely using your computer as a proxy to the Internet (bypassing the cellular data connection).

If you are able to reach the new web page, then your data services are setup correctly. If you receive a message that the page could not be reached, then your data services are not setup correctly and you should contact your cellular carrier for steps on configuring data services on your device (this information is different for each carrier).

ActiveSync fails to install Smartphone List Manager

Background:
The Windows Mobile Smartphone Platform has a very robust security model built into it. This security model allows Mobile Operators to control which applications can be installed and/or run on "their" devices. Mobile operators can enforce this security by requiring application developers to digitally sign their applications/installations with a specific certificate provided through a certificate authority. This digital signature ensures that the application you are installing is being provided, unmodified, from the vendor identified in the digital signature.

Are Unwired's Applications Digitally Signed?
Although we do sign certain components of our application, we do not sign our installation (.CAB) files. The reason we don't is because a known limitation in ActiveSync 3.8 and earlier, keeps ActiveSync from recognizing signed .CAB files as legitimate installation files and prohibits them from being installed from the Desktop using ActiveSync. In ActiveSync 4.0 and later, this problem has been resolved. Because the primary mechanism for installing our applications onto the phone is through the ActiveSync mechanism, and because most of our customers are running ActiveSync 3.8 and earlier, we have opted not to sign our installation files.

But my mobile operator appears to require a digital signature for installation...
For most mobile operators, digitally signed installation (.CAB) files are not required; however, some operators do require installation files to be signed. If you are receiving a message stating that the file you are attempting to install cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed, please contact Unwired's Customer Support at support@unwiredsoftware.com. In your email, please provide us with the following information: Your mobile operator; Your Windows Mobile OS Version; and Your device make and model. We will provide you with the appropriate signed installation files along with instructions for installing onto your phone without the aid of ActiveSync's installation facility.

Device Notification - 2nd mobile device

Hi,

I'm having problems with notifying the mobile device of changes--but only from one of two desktops.

I'm getting the error message: "Unwired List Manager was unable to send the requested notification message. One more of the mobile devices requiring notification has not registered a mobile carrier with the Unwired Web Service."

However, the second desktop, "DT1" is setup exactly like the other one ("DT2"). There's only one device thus far that requires notification. The user on both machines is "DB" and the phone number is entered identically on both as well. I probably should mention the carrier is Verizon. And I'm seeing nothing in my version of the software on the phone that would allow me to enter an unlisted carrier--so I'm wondering if I'm using the most updated version (in About screen on phone, it's listed as 1.2.2206.27124). Any help you can provide would be great as I use 3 computers regularly and would like to install the desktop component on all of them.

Get in sync in 3 easy steps

The first time you run List Manager, you need to set up the program. This usually takes about 5 minutes and consists of three easy, but important steps:

Step 1: Ensure your mobile device is enabled for data services.

List Manager's ability to sync (send lists over the air between devices) requires that you have data services enabled on your mobile device. For a GSM-based device, this may be referred to as a GPRS connection.

To determine whether data services are enabled

Use Internet Explorer on your mobile device to connect to a Web page.

Important Tips:

Enter a URL that you have never visited from your mobile device (because Web pages are cached on your device).
Ensure that your mobile device is not connected to your computer via ActiveSync when you connect to the Web page (otherwise, your device may be using your computer to connect to the Internet).

If you are able to reach the Web page, then your data services are enabled and you can move on to the next step. If not, contact your cellular carrier - the steps to enable data services are different for each carrier.

Step 2: Activate List Manager on your mobile device.

When you activate, you are setting up a unique List Manager password and ID for your mobile device.

The first time you start List Manager on your mobile device, you will be prompted to complete four fields.

Registration Key

By default, a trial registration key is filled in for you. Either use this trial key or fill in the full version key you received when you purchased List Manager.

Password

A password provides security for your lists. Choose a password that is between 4 and 20 characters. Since on some mobile devices, it is easier to enter numbers, consider creating a password that is completely numeric. This same password will be used to log into List Manager on the desktop, so be sure to make a mental note.

Mobile Carrier

Selecting your mobile carrier allows List Manager to send notification messages (via SMS) to your device to alert you when updated lists are available. This is an optional feature - without notifications, you can simply sync periodically to check for updated lists.

If your carrier is not in the list, select Other – this will disable the optional notification feature.

Advanced tip: If you know that your carrier does not use e-mail addresses of the form <YourMobileNum@yourCarrier.com>, you can select Mobile E-mail – which will allow you to type in the complete e-mail address that is used to send SMS notifications to your device.

Mobile Number

Your mobile number is used to uniquely identify your device. List Manager will try to auto-complete this field for you, filling in either:

Your device’s mobile number (if available)
OR
MAC address (for a Pocket PC)

If List Manager cannot determine either of those values, it will ask you to enter one. It’s best to enter your device’s mobile number; however, you may enter a different number. Any number you enter will be validated to make sure it is unique.

To finish, press the Register button. You will receive a message that your product has been activated.

Step 3: Create a List Manager user on your desktop computer.

When you sync, your lists travel over the air from your mobile device to your desktop and optionally to other mobile devices/desktops (if the list is set up to go to other users and they sync). Thus, you must create a link between your mobile device and desktop by creating a user account on your desktop. If you do not create a user account, you will not be able to sync.

To create a user account on your desktop

The first time you run List Manager on your desktop, you will be prompted to create a user account. Simply input your user name, and the same mobile device number and password you set up on your mobile device.

Tip: If you forget either of these values, simply go to the Registration Screen on your mobile device
(Options > Program Options > Register). The two values are displayed for your review.

Setup Complete!

You are ready to create and sync lists.

My carrier does not show up in the list of available carriers

If your carrier (i.e., Mobile Operator) does not show up in the list of available carriers on the device registration screen, YOU CAN STILL RUN LIST MANAGER WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. The carrier list is only for sending Device Notifications from a desktop to a mobile device. Device Notifications are optional and do not affect your ability to use or synchronize List Manager.

If your carrier does not show up in the list, please send us an email to support@unwiredsoftware.com so that we can update our list with your carrier. To do this, we need to know the email suffix that is used by your mobile operator to send an sms message to a device using email. For example, Cingular in the US uses <phone number>@mobile.mycingular.com).

Having Trouble Registering List Manager On Your Mobile Device?

If you are having trouble registering List Manager on your mobile device, there are several possible causes.

1. If your mobile device is not connected via ActiveSync:

a. Verify that the device is not in Flight Mode.

b. Data services must be enabled on the mobile device.

2. If your mobile device is connected via ActiveSync 4.1 or later:

a. If you are using a Windows Mobile 5 device, verify that ActiveSync Connection Settings are set to The Internet. To do this, go to ActiveSync on your computer and select File > Connection Settings. For the option This computer is connected to, select The Internet. You will then be able to register your device (and connect to the Internet) with Flight Mode enabled or disabled.

b. If you are using a Windows Mobile 2003 device, verify that the device is not in Flight Mode.

c. If you are using a Windows Mobile 2003 device, verify that ActiveSync Connection Settings are set to Automatic. To do this, go to ActiveSync on your computer and select File > Connection Settings. For the option This computer is connected to, select Automatic.

3. If your mobile device is connected via ActiveSync 3.8 or earlier:

If you are using a Windows Mobile 2003 (or earlier) device, verify that the device is not in Flight Mode.

Unwired sync manager has encountered a problem and needs to close

Sync manager no longer works on my desktop; I get the above message on boot-up and again if I try to run the list manager. Problem seems to have started about the time I loaded the new IE beta.

Attention Windows Mobile 5.0 Users

NOTE: The issue described in this post has been fixed as of 01/15/06. If you downloaded the installation after this date, you will not be impacted by this issue.

The Issue:
The Unique ID we use to identify individual desktops is the computer’s MAC address (or network interface card identifier). Normally, this can be counted on to be unique from computer to computer. It turns out that when a Treo is connected to a computer via ActiveSync, its network interface shows up in the list of available MAC addresses and can sometimes be used by List Manager as the desktops ID. The problem is that this MAC is not unique; in fact, it is the same on ALL Treos and possibly all Windows Mobile 5 devices.

Does this affect me?
If you have a Windows Mobile 5 device and you are experiencing trouble syncing between your devices and your destkops, and you installed List Manager before 1/15/06, you may be affected by this problem. The easiest way to check, is to look at the Unique ID List Manager is using for your computer.

Checking List Manager's Unique ID for your computer:

On your desktop, select Start (start menu) > Run and type in regedit on the dialog that appears
When the Registry Editor opens, click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then on SOFTWARE
Then on Unwired Software
In the right pane, locate the key labeled UniqueDeviceID. If the value of this key is: 8000600FE800, you need to follow the steps below to patch up your installation.

The Remedy:
To fix the problem we will re-register your desktop w/o your Treo connected. Follow these steps:

Shutdown List Manager
Shutdown Sync Manager – You must right-click on the Sync Manager icon in the System Tray (bottom right of your screen), and select Exit. Simply closing the window does not exit the application.
Make sure your Treo is disconnected from your computer
We need to remove the current UniqueID from the Registry
1. On your desktop, select Start (start menu) > Run and type in regedit
2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. Then SOFTWARE
4. Then Unwired Software
5. In the right pane, click on UniqueDeviceID and press the Delete key. Click ‘Yes’ when prompted.
Run Sync Manager – this will re-register your desktop with a truly unique ID.
You will need to re-associate the users/devices with this new desktop Id. To do this, open up the User dialog (in List Manager), make a change to a user and press OK until the dialog closes.

How to shutdown Sync Manager

Sync Manager is designed to always be running in the background waiting to handle a sync request from your mobile devices. Because Sync Manager must be running on any desktop that you wish to sync with, we have designed it so that it is not accidently shutdown. Following the same design as ActiveSync, here's how it works:

To Shutdown Sync Manager:
Locate the Sync Manager icon in the System Tray (this is the area at the bottom right of your computer screen), right-click on the icon and select Exit. This will shutdown Sync Manager.

Minimizing Sync Manager to the System Tray:
If you would prefer to run Sync Manager hidden, click on the Close Box on the upper right of the Sync Manager main form. This will close the Sync Manager form, but keep Sync Manager running. You can check the status of Sync Manager by hovering your mouse pointer over the Sync Manager icon in the System Tray. Note: You will not see Sync Manager on your Task Bar.

Minimizing Sync Manager to the Task Bar:
Another option is to minimize the Sync Manager window, but still displaying it on the Task Bar. If you prefer to run Sync Manager in this way, simply click on the Minimize Box .
