Quick Actions on the Pocket PC

If you're using a Pocket PC, then hold the stylus down on the main list screen to display a menu of common actions such as adding, editing and deleting list items, synchronizing lists and creating new lists.

Example: Hold the stylus down on a list item and choose to edit or delete that list item.

Change column widths on the fly

You can narrow or widen a column when you are viewing a list on your mobile device. Simply navigate to the particular column (so that the data in it has a highlight box around it) using the right and left navigation keys, then use * to narrow, # to widen.

You can customize the font size for your lists.

To choose font size:

In List Manager (mobile device), click Options > Program Options > General. The General screen opens.
In Font Size, select the desired size.
Click Done.

Customize how lists are displayed on your mobile device

For a different view of your list data, enable Column Popups. Column Popups are small windows that display all the data for a particular item (row).

To enable column popups:

In List Manager (mobile device), click Options > Show Column Popups

To choose colors:

In List Manager (mobile device), click Options > Program Options > Colors. The Colors screen opens.
Uncheck Use System Colors then scroll to make your selections.

Installing List Manager directly onto your mobile device

During the complete desktop installation of List Manager, a Mobile Device Installation File (.CAB) is copied to your hard drive. This file may be copied and installed directly to a mobile device. Here's how:

Steps:

Attach your mobile device to your computer via ActiveSync
Click on the Explore button on the ActiveSync Toolbar. This will launch Windows Explorer.
Within the newly opened Windows Explorer window, double-click on My Windows Mobile-Based Device (this will place you in the root folder of your device)
Open a new instance of Windows Explorer and locate the List Manager Device installation (.CAB) file. By default, this file will be installed to the following directory: c:\Program Files\Unwired Software\InfoShare\Smartphone List Manager

For Verizon customers

copy the file ListMgr_sv.CAB to your device by copying it to the folder opened in step 3.

For all other carrier customers

copy the file ListMgr_sm.CAB to your device by copying it to the folder opened in step 3.

On your device, start File Explorer and navigate to the folder where you copied the file in step 4
Click on the file and it will automatically install

Notify Mobile Devices of List Updates

You can notify mobile devices when there are updated lists for them to receive. Device Notification is a great way to ensure that all devices have the most current information. A device will only be notified once of an update and only if it does not already contain the latest list information.

To enable your desktop to notify mobile devices:

From the List Manager (desktop) Tools menu, select Options. The Options dialog opens.
Click the Enable Desktop Notifications checkbox.
Click OK.

To send a notification from a desktop to a mobile device:

Set up the mobile device owner as a user for a particular list.
From the Actions menu, select Notify Mobile Devices.

Note: The ability to send notifications from desktops to mobile devices requires that each device can receive text messages (SMS).

Receive updated lists automatically

When a notification is received from a desktop, your mobile device can automatically sync. With automatic sync enabled, synchronization proceeds without any user action.

To configure your mobile device to automatically sync:

Start List Manager (mobile device).
Click Options > Program Options > General. The Program Options screen opens.
Scroll down and select the Auto-sync When Notified checkbox.
Click Done.

Note: It is recommended that you select this option only if you have an unlimited data plan from your carrier. Auto-syncing may occur often when lists are updated frequently.

Handy navigation tips for List Manager (mobile device)

List Manager provides many handy ways to speed up navigation, including:

Press 1 when navigating a list to go to the list selection box at the top of the screen (where you can choose a different list).
Press 0 when navigating a list to scroll down 1 page at a time.
Press 2 when navigating a list to scroll up 1 page at a time.

Vary the column order on your mobile device and desktop

For ease of viewing, you may want to set a different list column order on your mobile device and desktop. If you set a certain list column order on a mobile device and share the list with a desktop computer, then rearrange the columns on the desktop, the column order will stay as originally created on the mobile device.

Customize how completed list items are displayed

When you “check off” an item in a list, do you want it hidden, or displayed with a strike-through?

To customize how completed list items are displayed:

In List Manager (desktop), from the Tools menu, select Options and select either Hide Checked Items or Strikethrough Checked Items.
In List Manager (mobile device), click Options > Program Options > General.

Consider setting a "friendly" desktop computer name

When your desktop communicates with mobile devices, it passes along its name so that mobile devices know which desktop has list updates or is available for syncing. By default, List Manager will use the computer name that is defined by the operating system. In some environments, this can be somewhat cryptic.

Consider setting a “friendly” desktop computer name (for example, “Karen’s desktop” or Mike’s laptop) that displays when your desktop communicates with mobile devices. To set a desktop computer name, from the List Manager (desktop) Configure menu, select Desktop Computer Name.
